Nigeria and Spain Enhance Agricultural Cooperation Efforts

Nigeria and Spain have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture, emphasizing technology transfer, food production, livestock development, and investment. This commitment emerged from a meeting on Thursday between Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, and Spain’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas Puchades, at the Palacio de Fomento in Madrid.

Planas congratulated Ikpeazu on his new role and noted that his appointment would enhance relations between the two countries, particularly in agro-food production and irrigation. He highlighted Spain’s advancements in crop disease prevention and improved seed development, which have boosted agricultural output.

Ikpeazu stressed the importance of agriculture for Nigeria, especially for its youth population, and expressed interest in learning from Spain's agricultural practices. He cited successful Spanish investments in Nigeria, such as GB Foods, which significantly increased tomato yields.

Both officials agreed to promote cooperation, technology transfer, and investment to deepen economic ties.
