Nigeria's Minister Confirms Ongoing Fuel Import Reliance

Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources in Nigeria, admitted that the country continues to depend on fuel imports, despite recent advancements in local refining capacity. Speaking at the CERAWeek by S&P Global conference in Houston, Texas, Lokpobiri highlighted that while there has been significant improvement in domestic refining capabilities, local production remains insufficient to meet the total consumption needs of Nigeria.

He emphasized that fuel imports are still a key component of Nigeria's fuel supply and will remain necessary until local refining capacity can fully expand to satisfy national demand. This statement underscores the ongoing challenges within Nigeria's oil and gas sector, particularly in achieving self-sufficiency in petroleum product supply.
