Nigeria's Judiciary Faces Crisis of Credibility and Integrity

This situation was exemplified by a recent case involving David Mark, the interim chair of the African Democratic Congress, where the Court of Appeal delivered a controversial judgment that contradicted previous rulings. The Nigerian Bar Association is set to address these issues at its annual conference in August 2025.

Odinkalu emphasizes that the judiciary's credibility is undermined by these practices, which could lead to chaos in Nigeria's democracy. He also points out that the Supreme Court's decisions often reflect political interests rather than legal principles, raising concerns about the integrity of the judicial system.
