Peter Obi Critiques Leaders Over Insecurity Amid Elections

Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, criticized Nigerian political leaders for allegedly prioritizing the 2027 elections over addressing the worsening insecurity across the country. In a statement released on Monday via his official social media account, Obi expressed grave concern over recent attacks affecting civilian security personnel.

He noted that Nigeria is increasingly under siege, with a significant rise in terrorist activities, particularly citing a recent attack in Ngosh community, Borno State, where terrorists reportedly overpowered soldiers, killing several and abducting 100 women and children. Obi lamented that the sacrifices made by security personnel often go unrecognized and emphasized the need for leadership that prioritizes the safety and welfare of citizens.

He also referenced the alarming situation in other states, including Nasarawa, Kogi, and Benue, where residents face threats from terrorists. Furthermore, he pointed out that insecurity has reached the nation's capital, Abuja, with recent abductions in the Kubwa area, underscoring the urgent need for effective governance focused on restoring security.
