Nigeria Launches 2030 Gender Equality Roadmap

Nigeria has launched a Gender Profile and a 2030 Equality Roadmap to promote gender equality and empower women. The framework, unveiled in Abuja by Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, focuses on eight priority areas, including legal reforms, economic empowerment, education, leadership, health, and social norms.

Dr. Abdul Kamara from the African Development Bank Group commended the initiative, highlighting that gender equality is essential for economic transformation.

He noted that closing the gender gap could unlock significant GDP growth. The roadmap aims to operationalize national gender policies and enhance women's participation in the economy.

Mr. Damar Ghimir from UN Women described the roadmap as a strategic instrument for advancing inclusive growth.

The Small Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) is committed to supporting women-led enterprises, with plans to establish dedicated women’s desks and improve access to finance. The initiative emphasizes coordinated action across government and private sectors to achieve its goals.
