Nigeria Optimistic About Winning FIFA Petition Against DR Congo After Malaysia Ruling

Nigeria's football team, the Super Eagles, is hopeful of winning a petition against DR Congo after FIFA's ruling on Malaysia's case. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) believes DR Congo fielded five ineligible players in the final African playoff for the 2026 World Cup spot.

The NFF alleges that DR Congo's players held dual citizenship, which is prohibited by the country's constitution. Following a recent decision where FIFA sanctioned Malaysia for a similar offense, Nigeria is confident in its case against DR Congo.

The NFF expects FIFA to disqualify DR Congo, paving the way for Nigeria to advance to the intercontinental playoff against Mexico in March. The NFF chairman, Shehu Dikko, cited the Malaysia case as evidence of Nigeria's strong position.

The Super Eagles finished third in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, showcasing their football prowess and aiming to secure a spot in the global soccer showcase.
