Nigeria, US Strengthen Defense Ties for Regional Security

Nigeria and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defense cooperation to combat terrorism and enhance regional security. This renewal of partnership was highlighted during a visit by Frank Garcia, the Assistant Secretary of African Affairs, to the Nigerian Defense Headquarters in Abuja.

Major General Samaila Uba, the Director of Defense Information, and General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Defense Staff, participated in discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral military collaboration to address emerging security challenges in West Africa. Air Vice Marshal Francis Edosa represented the Chief of Defense Policy and Plans.

The longstanding defense relationship between Nigeria and the U.S. is anchored in mutual respect and shared democratic ideals. Oluyede acknowledged the critical support provided by the U.S. in military training, intelligence sharing, and counter-terror operations.

Garcia expressed optimism that his visit would further strengthen military cooperation and open new opportunities for collaboration in pursuit of common security objectives.
