NFF Clarifies FIFA Stance on DRC Player Eligibility Dispute

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) addressed the ongoing controversy regarding the eligibility of a player from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the World Cup playoff match that eliminated Nigeria's Super Eagles. NFF filed a formal complaint to FIFA, citing that the player holds a foreign passport, despite DRC laws largely prohibiting dual citizenship for adults.

Ademola Olajire, NFF's Director of Communications, stated that reports suggesting FIFA had made a ruling were false and misleading. He confirmed that FIFA has not communicated any verdict.

NFF General Secretary Moham Sanusi raised concerns about whether the Congolese Football Association provided complete and accurate documentation for FIFA clearance. Rita Ilunga, Director of Football at DRC FA, urged Nigeria to accept the match result and focus on future competitions.

NFF warned the public to disregard fake documents circulating online claiming Nigeria was awarded a 3-0 victory. The matter remains under review by FIFA, which retains the authority to investigate allegations of document falsification.
