Nathaniel Wins Nigeria's First Gold in 400m Hurdles

Nathaniel claimed gold in the men's 400m hurdles at the Commonwealth Games with a time of 48.47 seconds, finishing ahead of England’s Jake Minshull, who recorded 48.99 seconds, and Jamaica’s Assinie Wilson, who took bronze with a time of 49.22 seconds. This victory makes Nathaniel the first Nigerian athlete in Commonwealth Games history to win a gold medal in this event.

He was the pre-championship favorite and maintained control throughout the race, achieving a smooth finish. This win also represents Nigeria's first medal in the men's 400m hurdles in 60 years, since Kingsley Agbabokha won silver at the Kingston Games.

Nathaniel, aged 23, had previously finished sixth in the event in 2022. With this gold, Nigeria has now secured a total of 18 medals at the Commonwealth Games, including nine gold, six silver, and three bronze medals.
