Nigeria and WFP Enhance Cooperation on Food Security

On July 1, 2026, Nigeria's Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, received WFP country representative Katrien Ghoo to discuss the ongoing partnership between Nigeria and the World Food Programme (WFP) in the areas of food security and humanitarian assistance. During the meeting, Ojukwu acknowledged the critical role of WFP in supporting Nigeria, particularly in providing life-saving assistance to vulnerable populations affected by humanitarian challenges.

She reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to collaborating with WFP and international partners to address the root causes of food insecurity and coordinate humanitarian and development interventions. Ojukwu emphasized the importance of integrating humanitarian assistance with long-term development strategies to enhance agricultural productivity, improve rural livelihoods, and promote economic inclusion.

Ghoo reiterated WFP's commitment to supporting Nigeria's efforts towards achieving food security and sustainable development, expressing readiness to deepen cooperation across relevant ministries and agencies.
