Nigeria and Germany Strengthen Strategic Partnership

On July 22, 2026, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, met with Dr. Johann David Wadephul, the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.

This meeting marked Dr. Wadephul's first official visit to Nigeria and underscored the enduring friendship between the two nations, built over more than six decades.

Both ministers discussed enhancing political dialogue, expanding trade and investment, and promoting sustainable development across various sectors, including renewable energy, agriculture, and healthcare. Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu reiterated Nigeria's commitment to the outcomes of the Fifth Session of the Nigeria-Germany Binational Commission and welcomed Germany's support for Nigeria's development priorities.

They also addressed regional security challenges, with Dr. Wadephul acknowledging Nigeria's leadership in combating terrorism in the Lake Chad Basin.

The discussions emphasized the need for stronger international partnerships to tackle emerging global challenges.
