Nigerian Army Honors ECOMOG Veterans in 2026 Celebration

The Nigerian Army, under the leadership of Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, is recognizing ECOMOG veterans for their significant contributions to restoring peace in West African nations during the 1990s. This initiative was announced during a Jumat prayer marking the commencement of the NADCEL 2026.

Shaibu emphasized the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by soldiers who participated in peace support operations. The week-long program is designed to celebrate the history of the Nigerian Army, honor fallen personnel, and strengthen the bond between the military and the public.

It will culminate in Port Harcourt on July 6, 2026, and will include religious services, community outreach, medical programs, and public engagement activities. The overarching theme of the celebration is to highlight the Army's constitutional role in protecting the nation.
