Nigerian Army Warns Personnel Against Social Media Misuse

The Nigerian Army has issued a warning to its personnel regarding the misuse of social media, emphasizing that any violations of existing regulations on online conduct will result in disciplinary action. This caution was articulated by the Army Provost Marshal, Maj Gen Mathia Erebulu, during a training seminar for military police personnel, as reported by African Independent Television (AIT) on Thursday.

Maj Gen Erebulu directed commanding officers to ensure that troops are properly briefed on the rules governing online engagement and reiterated the consequences of social media abuse. He stressed that soldiers should not engage in social media activities that contravene military regulations.

Furthermore, he reminded personnel of the legal limits regarding the detention of civilians, stating that individuals must be handed over to appropriate law enforcement agencies within 24 hours of preliminary investigation. The seminar aimed to strengthen operational discipline among military police personnel.
