Nigerian Army Warns Personnel Against Social Media Misuse

The Nigerian Army has cautioned its personnel against the use of social media, emphasizing that violations of its regulations regarding online conduct will result in disciplinary actions. This warning was articulated by the Army's Provost Marshal, Mathia Erebulu, during a training seminar organized for military police personnel.

Erebulu directed command officers to sensitize troops about the risks associated with the misuse of social media. He stressed that soldiers should refrain from engaging in social media activities that contravene the established rules.

Furthermore, Erebulu reminded officers of constitutional provisions concerning the detention of civilians, highlighting that soldiers must hand over civilians to appropriate law enforcement agencies within 24 hours of a preliminary investigation. He underscored that the military is not supposed to detain civilians and that due process must be followed in such cases.
