Nigerian Athletes Shine with 32 Medals at NCAA Indoor

Nigerian athletes showcased exceptional talent at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Conference, claiming a total of 32 medals across various events. Samuel Ogazi from Alabama made history by winning gold in the men's 400m with a time of 44.72 seconds, setting a new African and Nigerian national record, surpassing the previous continental mark of 44.74 seconds.

Ella Onojuvwevwo from LSU won gold in the women's 400m with a personal best of 50.96 seconds, becoming the second fastest African woman in indoor history. Kayinsola Ajayi from Auburn also excelled, winning gold in the men's 60m with a time of 6.45 seconds, breaking the long-standing Nigerian national record of 6.48 seconds.

Other notable performances included Chioma Nwachukwu securing silver in the women's 400m and Temitop Adeshina winning gold in the women's high jump. The event highlighted the dominance of Nigerian athletes across multiple NCAA conferences, including the SEC, Big Ten, and Big 12.
