Nigeria Strengthens Naval Ties with Egypt Through Visit

The Nigerian Navy is deepening its strategic ties with the Egyptian Navy through a high-level cross-attachment visit. The Nigerian delegation, led by Rear Admiral Ikenna Ubani, included Captain Andrew Zidon and other naval personnel.

This visit is part of a broader strategy to enhance bilateral cooperation and operational capabilities. Over five days, the delegation engaged in operational briefings, inspections, and interactive sessions to gain firsthand exposure to Egyptian naval doctrine, maritime infrastructure, and shipbuilding expertise.

The visit included a tour of major shipbuilding facilities in Alexandria, where the Nigerian team observed various stages of vessel construction and maintenance procedures using modern shipbuilding technology. The aim is to enhance Nigeria's naval self-reliance and fleet sustainability.

The cross-attachment program seeks to identify concrete avenues for collaboration, including joint training initiatives and technical skill transfers. A reciprocal visit by an Egyptian naval delegation to Nigeria is expected in April 2026, signaling a commitment to sustained defense diplomacy between the two maritime forces.
