Nigerian Navy Enhances Skills Through Egypt Visit

The Nigerian Navy (NN) has strengthened its skills, training, and bilateral ties through a recent strategic cross-attach visit to the Egyptian Navy at the Kei Maritime Institute in Alexandria, which took place from February 8-12, 2026. Led by Rear Admiral Ikenna Ubani, the Nigerian delegation included senior officers from the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, such as Captain Andrew Zidon.

This visit is part of the NN's broader effort to explore and expand international bilateral engagements focused on learning interoperable techniques. The engagement emphasized the importance of military diplomacy and allowed personnel from both navies to integrate temporarily into each other's operational structures.

The visit included operational briefings and inspections of tactics, as well as tours of major shipbuilding and maintenance facilities, reinforcing the significance of indigenous shipbuilding capabilities. The collaboration aims to enhance operational effectiveness and deepen defense cooperation between Nigeria and Egypt, addressing increasing transnational maritime threats such as piracy and illegal trafficking.
