Nigerian Football Legend Henri Nwosu Passes Away at 62

Henri Nwosu, a celebrated midfielder and member of Nigeria's national football team that won the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations, died on Saturday at the age of 62. His death was announced by former teammate Segun Odegbami, revealing that Nwosu had spent five days in intensive care at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

President Bola Tinubu expressed condolences to Nwosu's family and the wider sports community, recalling his exceptional skills and contributions to Nigerian football. The Nigeria Football Federation, through its presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga, described Nwosu as a player whose artistry on the pitch left a lasting impression.

Nwosu was a key figure in Nigerian football, also participating in the 1984 and 1988 Africa Cup of Nations. After retiring, he continued to influence the sport as a coach for various domestic clubs, including Gateway FC and Heartland FC.

His passing is a significant loss to the football community, with many remembering him as a true patriot of the game.
