Nigerian Government Approves Reopening of Kebbi Border for Regional Trade

The Nigerian government, through the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has granted approval for the reopening of the Tsamiya land border in Kebbi State to facilitate cross-border trade. The move comes after consultations involving security agencies, diplomats, and customs authorities from Nigeria and neighboring countries, including the Benin Republic.

The reopening is part of efforts to ease trade restrictions while ensuring national security. President Bola Tinubu's authorization is aimed at boosting legal trade activities and preventing criminal operations.

The decision includes the implementation of defined security protocols to prevent illicit activities. The Nigerian Customs Service has deployed ICT-based systems to enhance monitoring and transparency in customs operations.

Stakeholders, including export traders and the Nigeria Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association (NOPPMAN), have welcomed the development, emphasizing the positive impact on regional trade and the economy.
