Nigerian Government Cautions Against Divisive Rhetoric at Religious Leaders' Meeting

The Nigerian government, through Secretary to the Government of the Federation Georg Akum, cautioned against divisive rhetoric at a meeting of religious leaders in Abuja. The Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) discussed the urgent need to rebuild trust among different faith groups to prevent extremist exploitation of divisions.

Various leaders, including Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III and Archbishop Daniel Okoh, emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation across religious lines for peace. The government pledged support for NIREC's peace efforts and highlighted the role of faith-based organizations in enhancing security and peacebuilding.
