Nigerian Man Sentenced to Life in UK for Stabbing Girlfriend to Death

Adedapo Adegbola, a 40-year-old Nigerian man, has been handed a life imprisonment sentence by the Nottingham Crown Court in the UK for the murder of his former girlfriend, 23-year-old university student Steph Iron. The tragic incident took place in Mapperley, Nottingham, in October 2025.

Adegbola admitted to killing Iron at her home following the breakdown of their brief relationship. The court heard that Adegbola became obsessed with Iron after their breakup, leading him to purchase two knives online and attack her when she stepped outside to take out the trash.

Iron was stabbed repeatedly, and despite alarms being raised, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Adegbola fled the area, discarding bloodstained clothing and other evidence along the way before eventually surrendering to the police.

Detective Inspector Stuart Barson, who led the investigation, described Iron as a compassionate young woman whose life was tragically cut short under terrifying circumstances.
