Mr P Defends Choice of French Over Nigerian Languages

Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P of the defunct music group P-Square, ignited a debate after expressing pride in his children's fluency in French while suggesting that Nigerian languages offer little practical value. This discussion began on Monday when he posted on X from Paris, contemplating owning a home there.

When questioned by a user, @sambuddybest, about whether his children could speak Igbo, Mr P dismissed the relevance of Nigerian languages, stating, “And who naija language help? Make I hear word abeg.” His remarks led to mixed reactions on social media, with some users advocating for the preservation of indigenous languages, while others supported his stance on parental discretion in language education.

Mr P further emphasized that the choice of language should be a family matter and criticized those who questioned his decisions, urging them to "Mind Your Business." He reiterated that English is Nigeria's official language and questioned the benefits of speaking indigenous languages, suggesting that many critics would also prefer foreign citizenship if given the chance.
