Nigerian Man Seeks Urgent Return from Russian Military

Adamu, a Nigerian man, has formally appealed to the Nigerian government for urgent intervention to secure his return from Russia, where he claims he was deceived into joining the Russian military. He traveled to Moscow on a tourist visa issued on October 16, 2025, after being promised employment as a security personnel by the Russian Embassy in Abuja.

Upon arrival, his travel documents were reportedly confiscated, and he was compelled to sign enlistment papers written entirely in Russian without interpretation. Adamu later realized he had enlisted in the Russian army and is currently stranded in a military camp, having reportedly refused deployment to combat zones in Ukraine.

This situation arises amid increasing reports of foreign nationals being lured to Russia with promises of civilian jobs, only to be drafted into military service. Additionally, two Nigerians, Hamzat Kazeem Kolawole (42) and Mbah Stephen Udoka (38), were killed fighting on the Russian side in Luhansk after joining the Russian army in November 2025.

Adamu's lawyer has called on Nigerian authorities to act swiftly to ensure his safe return, citing serious safety concerns.
