Nigerian Navy and U.S. Enhance Maritime Security Ties

The Nigerian Navy, led by Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha, engaged with a U.S. delegation headed by Mr. Adam Barker to deepen their maritime security partnership.

During the visit, Mustapha highlighted the critical role of the command in safeguarding Nigeria's maritime domain and supporting security initiatives in the Gulf of Guinea. He underscored the significance of the Regional Maritime Awareness Capability (RMAC) in enhancing maritime domain awareness and enabling real-time monitoring and information sharing for coordinated operations.

The RMAC has greatly improved the Nigerian Navy's capacity to combat sea robbery, crude oil theft, and illegal maritime activities, thereby making maritime trade routes safer. The collaboration with international partners, particularly the United States, is vital for advancing maritime security objectives.

The U.S. delegation commended the Nigerian Navy's proactive approach and reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen maritime awareness and enhance the collective security framework in the Gulf of Guinea.
