Nigerian Army Expands Aviation Wing, Plans Pilot Training

The Nigerian Army is set to expand its aviation wing, with plans to train pilots in South Africa. This initiative was disclosed by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, during an official visit to Nigeria by the Chief of the South African Army, Lawrence Mbatha.

The Nigerian Army established its aviation wing a few years ago to strengthen its operational capabilities. Shaibu noted that the aviation program is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, leveraging the established aviation capabilities of the South African Army.

The collaboration aims to enhance military cooperation between the two countries, particularly in training capacities. Additionally, the Nigerian Army is looking to expand training opportunities for its medical personnel at South African military health institutes, focusing on areas such as forensic pathology and critical care related to trauma injuries.

Shaibu emphasized the importance of these training avenues for improving the quality of medical support for troops.
