Obi Urges Nigerians to Fight Hunger Ahead of 2027 Elections

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, addressed the worsening poverty and food insecurity in Nigeria during the burial service of Okaji Simon Okorie, father of NDC senatorial candidate Linus Okorie, at St Fintan’s Catholic Church in Enugu, Ebonyi State. Obi stated that Nigerians are being "harassed by hunger" under President Bola Tinubu's administration.

He emphasized the significance of the 2027 general election in determining Nigeria's future, urging citizens to assess the current government's direction. Obi cited World Bank figures indicating that poverty has risen to nearly 79% from 61% since the current administration took office.

He mentioned that 13 million Nigerians are projected to face acute hunger. On the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Obi expressed that the ultimate power lies with the people and their votes.

He called for a collective stand against the hardships faced by Nigerians, stating, "It is time to tell those who are harassed: enough is enough.".
