Peter Obi Critiques Tinubu's Insensitive Hunger Remarks

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his comments regarding hunger in Nigeria, which he deemed insensitive given the current economic challenges. In a statement released on Friday, Obi expressed concern over Tinubu's remarks made to Catholic bishops, stating that while hunger has always existed, the President's comments did not acknowledge the severity of the current situation.

Obi noted that food insecurity has escalated from about 17 million Nigerians facing acute food insecurity before Tinubu's administration took office in 2023 to approximately 35 million now. He also claimed that the number of Nigerians living in extreme poverty has surged from an estimated 87 million to nearly 140 million during this period.

Obi attributed the worsening conditions to factors such as insecurity, poor economic management, and inadequate investment in critical sectors. He urged the government to prioritize investments in education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and small businesses to alleviate poverty and hunger.
