Nigeria's Fuel Consumption Hits 47.3 Million Litres Daily

In March 2023, Nigeria's daily fuel consumption reached 47.3 million litres, with fuel imports hitting 5.9 million litres, according to a factsheet released by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). This figure represents an increase of 2.9 million litres compared to February's 3 million litres.

The Dangote Refinery contributed significantly, supplying 34.2 million litres daily, although this was a decrease from 36.5 million litres per day previously. The refinery produced an average of 48.2 million litres daily.

The NMDPRA reported that no import licenses were issued for major markets, aiming to eliminate fuel imports by 2026. Despite this, Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, expressed concerns that continued fuel imports could undermine local production.

The average price of petrol varied across states, with the highest recorded in Enugu at N1,270 per litre.
