Dangote Refinery Supplies 92% of Nigeria's Petrol

As of February 2026, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has become the dominant supplier of petrol in Nigeria, accounting for 92% of the country's daily petrol supply. The federal government has paused all petrol imports, with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) confirming that no import licenses have been issued this year.

Local refineries, primarily Dangote's, supplied 36.5 million liters of petrol daily, while imports contributed just 3 million liters, bringing the total daily supply to 39.5 million liters. This marks a significant shift from previous months, where imports averaged 42.2 million liters daily in December 2025.

The reduction in imports is attributed to the increased output from local refineries, particularly Dangote's facility, which has led to a drastic decline in reliance on imported fuel. The NMDPRA noted that the overall petrol supply decreased by 25.4 million liters daily due to this trend, indicating a major restructuring of Nigeria's fuel supply chain.
