Nigeria's U.S. Vehicle Imports Hit $602M in 2026

Between January and May 2026, Nigeria imported motor vehicles and automotive parts valued at $602 million from the United States, reflecting a 41.3% increase from the $426 million recorded in the same period of 2025, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S.

Bureau of Economic Analysis. Passenger cars represented the largest segment, with imports rising to $454 million from $312 million, marking a 45.5% increase year-on-year.

Automotive parts imports also grew to $122 million from $86 million, a 41.9% rise. However, imports of trucks, buses, and special-purpose vehicles decreased by 10.3% to $26 million.

In May 2026, Nigeria imported $124 million worth of vehicles and parts, a slight decrease from April's $131 million. Compared to May 2025, total imports rose by 30.5%.

Among African nations, Nigeria had the highest value of U.S. automotive imports, surpassing South Africa's $313 million.
