CSCS Proposes Fee Reductions for Nigerian Investors

The Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) is proposing significant fee reductions for retail investors and stockbrokers in Nigeria. The lien fee for retail clients handling transactions below N100 million would decrease from 0.25% to 0.125%, a 50% reduction.
Additionally, CSCS plans to waive charges on transfers of qualifying securities between immediate family members, which include spouses, parents, children, siblings, and stepchildren. This change would eliminate costs for investors moving eligible securities within these family relationships.
Furthermore, CSCS aims to abolish the N145,600 fee for broker code creation and renewal, as well as the N36,400 eligibility fee for stockbroking firms across the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), NASD, and Commodities and Futures Exchange (LCFE). These proposals are intended to reduce administrative and operational expenses, thereby increasing participation, efficiency, and liquidity in Nigeria's capital market.
This follows a previous fee structure overhaul that took effect on January 1, 2026, which had raised some charges.
