Nigerians Warm Up to INEC Voter Registration Call

Nigerians are responding positively to the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) call for voter registration ahead of the 2027 general election. The voter registration exercise began on August 18, 2025, targeting individuals who have turned 18 and are eligible to vote.

INEC has introduced two options for registration - online and in-person at State and Local Government offices nationwide. The online registration option commenced on August 18, with over a thousand Nigerians already completing the process within the first few days.

INEC is providing weekly updates on the registration progress, including detailed breakdowns by State, gender, age, occupation, and disability. The Commission is also conducting sensitization campaigns across the country to encourage maximum participation in the registration process.

Emir Zazzau, Amb. Nuhu Bamalli, commended INEC for the exercise, emphasizing the importance of youth participation in democracy.
