Nigeria's Crude Oil Imports from US Surge to 42 Million Barrels in 2025

Nigeria's crude oil imports from the United States have risen sharply to 42 million barrels in 2025, showcasing a substantial increase from the previous year. The data from the United States Energy Information Administration reveals a 26.34 million barrel year-on-year increase, highlighting a major shift in Nigeria's crude oil sourcing pattern.

This surge in imports reflects a doubling of reliance on US crude, driven by rising demand and structural pressures within Nigeria's domestic oil supply chain. Despite a modest and uneven import volume in 2024, Nigeria's monthly inflow in 2025 has shown a remarkable increase, with a significant jump in June to nearly nine times higher than the same period in 2024.
