Nigeria Davis Cup Team Heads to Morocco for Key Clash

Nigeria’s Davis Cup Team departed Abuja in the early hours of yesterday for Rabat, Morocco, ahead of the 2026 Davis Cup World Group II clash scheduled for September 19-20 at the Union Sportive des Cheminots de Tennis du Maroc. This tie is significant as Team Nigeria aims to break a jinx of four previous losses to Morocco.

The players, including Daniel Adeleye, Canice Abua, Michael Emmanuel, and Yusuf Abubakar, are determined to represent Nigeria proudly. They have undergone three weeks of intensive training to enhance their skills and team cohesion.

Head Coach Benson Ishicheli leads the squad, which also anticipates the addition of rising star Oluwaseun Ogunsakin, who has recently competed in Grand Slam tournaments at Roland Garros and the US Open. Nigeria secured this opportunity after a victory over Uzbekistan in February, marking their first Davis Cup World Group II appearance in 30 years.

The winner of this tie will advance to the Davis Cup World Group I.
