NIGERIA’S DRUG ABUSE EMERGENCY

Nigeria is facing a drug abuse crisis, with an estimated 14 million people aged 15 to 64 using substances like cannabis, tramadol, codeine, and methamphetamine. The National Association of Seadogs (NAS) has brought attention to this issue, highlighting the devastating impact on families and communities.

Despite law enforcement efforts by the NDLEA to seize narcotics and arrest traffickers, the flow of drugs continues, leading to a growing number of addicts and funerals. Poverty, unemployment, and hopelessness are identified as key factors driving youth towards drug use.

NAS has launched a campaign to raise awareness and provide support, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive approach involving education, prevention, treatment, and economic opportunities. The organization calls on all sectors of society to join forces in addressing this national emergency before it consumes an entire generation.
