Greenview Fertiliser's Sinha Addresses Nigeria's Low Fertilizer Use

Nigeria's fertilizer application remains at approximately 15kg per hectare, significantly below the ECOWAS target of 50kg per hectare, as disclosed by Vishwajit Sinha, Chief Executive Officer of Greenview Fertiliser Corporation, during the FirstBank Agric & Export Expo 2026 in Lagos. This low usage is a major constraint on agricultural productivity and food security, with 36.3 million Nigerians facing food insecurity as of August 2026, according to the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).

Panelists at the expo, including Mohamed Tahir of Wilmar Agribusiness and Agboola Zubayr Belgore of Amo Byng Nigeria Limited, called for consistent government policies, patient financing, and prioritization of domestic supply before focusing on exports. Despite Nigeria's fertilizer industry generating N1.37 trillion in exports in the first quarter of 2026, the contrast between export capacity and domestic application levels remains stark, exacerbating food security challenges.
