Nigeria's NCDC Evacuates Ebola Patient for Treatment

Nigeria's index case of the Ebola virus disease, a 42-year-old woman, is scheduled for medical evacuation abroad for further treatment early Monday. A medical evacuation aircraft is prepared at the airport for her departure.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) reported that two suspected Ebola cases from the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State have tested negative. Additionally, 53 primary contacts of the confirmed index case are being monitored.
The NCDC is considering a welfare payment of N100,000 per week for contacts in quarantine. Dr. Jide Idris, the Director General of the NCDC, confirmed that the index case is receiving care under isolation and that clinical teams are monitoring her condition.
The index case, originally from Uganda and married to a Swiss national, was detected through event-based surveillance. The NCDC continues to work with health authorities to contain the outbreak and is investigating her travel details.
