Nigeria's Metered Electricity Customers Reach 7.44 Million

In April 2026, Nigeria's metered electricity customers increased by 111,654, bringing the total to 7,435,733, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). This rise improved the national metering rate from 59.13% in March to 59.69%, a 0.56 percentage point increase.

However, the overall metering gap did not decrease equivalently, as the number of active electricity customers also grew from 12,386,848 in March to 12,457,068 in April, an increase of 70,220 customers or 0.57%. Consequently, the number of active customers without meters fell from 5,062,769 to 5,021,335, a reduction of 41,434 customers or 0.82%.

The performance of the 11 distribution companies varied, with only three achieving metering rates above 70%. Eko Disco led with 88.78%, followed by Ikeja at 87.93% and Abuja at 80.08%.

Ibadan Disco added the most new metered customers, totaling 31,951, while Enugu saw no increase in its metered base.
