Nigeria's Youth Athletes Train for Dakar 2026 Olympic Games

Nigeria's youth athletes are currently engaged in an intensive training camp in Abuja as they prepare for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, which will commence on October 31 and run until November 13. This event marks the first time an Olympic event will be held in Africa, with approximately 2,700 athletes aged 17 and under expected to participate.
The training camp is designed to improve the athletes' fitness levels, build self-belief, and sharpen their competitive skills. Bukola Olopade, the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, stated that the Games present an opportunity for Nigeria to identify, develop, and showcase its next generation of sporting talent, thereby strengthening the athlete pipeline for future Olympic competitions.
Additionally, Blessing Oborududu, a silver medallist in wrestling from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, has been selected as one of 31 elite athletes by the International Olympic Committee to serve as an Athlete Role Model, mentoring young competitors during the Games.
