Otubanjo Suggests Fubara May Defect to NDC Before 2027

Otubanjo, the Director of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), suggested that Rivers State Governor Fubara might defect to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the 2027 elections approach. He characterized Fubara's current political situation as unfortunate, attributing part of the responsibility for this crisis to the governor himself.

Otubanjo pointed out that Fubara's emergence as governor has complicated the political structure in Rivers State, particularly in relation to former Governor Nyesom Wike. He warned that Fubara's potential move to the NDC could be perilous, especially considering the presence of 28 lawmakers from the opposition who remain in office.

Otubanjo expressed concerns that if Fubara were to join the NDC, he might face impeachment and would emerge as a less powerful candidate in the elections, ultimately complicating his political future.
