NIMASA Strengthens Partnership with Mission to Seafarers

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the welfare of Nigerian seafarers by strengthening partnerships with maritime stakeholders, particularly the Mission to Seafarers (MtS). This was announced by NIMASA's Director General, Dr.

Dayo Mobereola, during a courtesy visit from Chief Adebayo Sarumi, Chairman of the Management Committee of MtS Lagos, and Reverend Cedric Rautenbach, Regional Director of MtS Africa, at NIMASA's headquarters in Lagos. Engr.

Fatai Taiye Adeyemi, representing the DG, reiterated NIMASA's dedication to implementing policies that enhance seafarers' welfare, including improved certification processes and capacity development. Chief Sarumi expressed gratitude for NIMASA's reforms in the maritime sector, while Reverend Rautenbach highlighted the complementary roles of MtS and the Port Welfare Committee in supporting seafarers.

The visit facilitated discussions on welfare, working conditions, and collaboration to enhance support services for seafarers in Nigeria, aligning with international best practices and the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006.
