NIMASA and Navy Renew MoU for Maritime Security

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Nigerian Navy renewed their strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Nigerian Navy Headquarters in Abuja. The MoU was signed by NIMASA's Director General, Dr Dayo Mobereola, and the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas.

This agreement aims to strengthen maritime security, enhance safety, and improve coordinated enforcement across Nigeria’s maritime domain. It provides a framework for collaboration in implementing the Suppression of Piracy and Other Maritime Offences (SPOMO) Act, the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, and other relevant maritime laws.

Dr Mobereola praised the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, for promoting inter-agency collaboration as vital for maritime security and the development of Nigeria’s Blue Economy. The MoU is designed to address emerging maritime security challenges through better coordination, information sharing, and operational cooperation, aligning with President Bola Tinubu's goals for the Blue Economy.
