NiMet Issues Thunderstorm Warning for Nigeria on Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook warning for thunderstorms and gusty winds that may disrupt activities across Nigeria on Monday. The agency indicated that hot sunny conditions will prevail in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms expected later in the day, particularly affecting northern regions, including Taraba State, and central states.

NiMet advised that areas such as Niger, Kwara, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory may experience rainfall accompanied by strong winds without significant precipitation early in the day. In the southern region, increased storm activity is anticipated, with thunderstorms expected to intensify later in the day, potentially disrupting outdoor activities in states like Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Enugu, Anambra, and River Delta.

NiMet issued safety advisories regarding strong winds preceding thunderstorms, urging residents to secure loose objects and drive cautiously during rainfall due to reduced visibility and slippery roads. The agency also cautioned the public to avoid flood-prone areas during heavy rainfall and to seek shelter during storms due to the possibility of lightning strikes.
