NiMet Warns of Thunderstorms and Strong Winds in Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning regarding thunderstorms and strong winds expected across parts of Nigeria on Monday, April 13. In a forecast released on Sunday, NiMet indicated that northern states, including Adamawa and Taraba, will experience sunny conditions in the morning with isolated thunderstorms expected later in the day. The central region is projected to have cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine, followed by thunderstorms in areas such as Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau, including the Federal Capital Territory. In southern states, NiMet warned of cloudy skies with chances of isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. The agency cautioned that strong winds may precede thunderstorms, urging residents to secure loose objects and advising motorists to drive cautiously due to reduced visibility and slippery roads. NiMet also warned against staying in flood-prone areas during heavy rainfall and recommended that the public seek shelter during storms.
