NIPS Praises Nigerian Military's Success Against Insecurity

The Nigerian Institute for Peace and Security (NIPS) praised the armed forces for their operational successes in combating insecurity during the first quarter of 2026. Under the leadership of General Olufemi Oluyed and the executive direction of Dr. Adam King, the military intensified coordinated operations, resulting in the neutralization of 200 terrorists and the arrest of nearly 300 suspects, with approximately 188 kidnapped civilians rescued in April alone.

The quarterly report highlighted improvements in logistics and inter-service coordination, indicating a strategic shift from mere firefights to dismantling criminal networks. NIPS noted that operations were not limited to specific regions but were executed nationwide, with a focus on sustaining offensives in the North East and degrading insurgent strongholds.

The report also warned against political narratives that undermine military gains and emphasized the importance of addressing root causes of instability through socio-economic interventions. Overall, the report indicated that Nigeria's security forces are growing more effective, although challenges from adaptive criminal groups persist.
