NIQS Urges Cost Discipline in Nigeria's Infrastructure Projects
The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) has issued a warning regarding the ongoing waste of infrastructure funds in Nigeria, citing unrealistic estimates, cost overruns, and abandoned projects as significant barriers to development. At the induction of 175 new members in Abuja, the President of NIQS, QS Dr. Aminu M.

Bashir described Quantity Surveyors as the “conscience of cost” in the construction industry, highlighting their responsibilities in cost planning, procurement advice, risk management, project monitoring, and value-for-money assessments. He urged newly inducted members to maintain professional integrity and resist pressures to manipulate financial figures.
The NIQS held its 2026 National Workshop and Induction from August 25 to 27 at Limpopo Bay, Faculty of Law, Nile University of Nigeria, focusing on contemporary challenges in infrastructure delivery.
