Quantity Surveyors Back BPP's Procurement Reform Agenda

The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), represented by President Dr. Aminu Muhammad Bashir, has committed to supporting the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) in its reform agenda.

During a visit to the BPP headquarters in Abuja, Dr. Bashir acknowledged recent developments under the leadership of Dr.

Adebowale Adedokun, including the launch of national guidelines for public procurement on July 13 and a circular issued in May 2026 mandating final design contract award measurements. These measures aim to mitigate recurring issues such as excessive contract variations and cost overruns, with BPP reports indicating potential savings of approximately 1.1 trillion Naira for the federal government by 2025.

Dr. Bashir urged the BPP to ensure that the roles of statutory bodies, including quantity surveyors, are clearly defined in the new procurement framework.

Dr. Adedokun welcomed the NIQS's commitment to collaborate on national procurement strategies and emphasized the importance of focusing on outcomes rather than processes in procurement reforms.
