NISO and Canada Discuss Partnership for Power Sector Modernization

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) and the Canadian High Commission have initiated discussions to form a strategic partnership aimed at modernizing Nigeria's electricity sector. This collaboration was discussed during a courtesy visit by Canadian High Commissioner David Sproule to NISO Headquarters in Abuja, where he met with NISO's Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, and the management team.

Engr. Mohammed emphasized the importance of this visit in strengthening bilateral relations and highlighted NISO's mandate under the Electricity Act 2023, which includes System Operations, Market Operations, and System Planning. He outlined NISO's efforts in digital transformation, including the implementation of advanced systems for electricity market operations and the integration of renewable energy.

Key areas for potential collaboration include capacity development, technical exchange, and investment in critical power infrastructure. Engr. Mohammed expressed NISO's eagerness to learn from Canada's expertise in modern electricity market operations and renewable energy integration, viewing this visit as the start of a sustained partnership.
