NITDA Advocates for Nigeria's Control of Digital Infrastructure

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has asserted that Nigeria must take control of its critical digital infrastructure to fully realize the economic potential of its digital economy. During a firechat at GITEX AI Nigeria in Lagos, NITDA Director-General Mr. Kashifu Inuwa stated that digital technology is vital for Nigeria's goal of becoming a trillion-dollar economy by enhancing productivity and income generation.

He explained that the National Cloud-First Policy encourages businesses to prioritize cloud infrastructure while inviting global technology firms to invest and operate within Nigeria's regulatory framework. Inuwa dismissed fears that this policy could isolate Nigeria, asserting it aims to empower the country to control its digital future.

He emphasized the importance of protecting certain data categories for national security and noted Nigeria's strategic role as an internet transit hub in West and Central Africa. NITDA is also collaborating with state governments to ensure broader digital development across the country.
