NITDA Launches Framework to Enhance Software Quality in Nigeria

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has introduced the National Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Framework to enhance the quality and security of software used in Nigeria. This framework establishes nationally recognized standards for software design, secure coding, testing, documentation, and certification prior to deployment.

It specifically requires independent third-party testing for high-risk digital systems that support critical infrastructure. The framework is a response to the increasing reliance on digital services across public and private sectors, where software failures can lead to significant financial losses and security vulnerabilities.

It promotes a shift towards integrating quality and security into the software development process from the outset, aligning with global trends of “security by design” and “quality by design.” This initiative is crucial as Nigeria continues to digitize services in various sectors, including government, banking, healthcare, and education.
